Reducing Risk

As opposed to a new corporate headquarters or a transit hub, exterior restoration projects are not “aspirational.”  Often, a successful project is one where the casual observer wouldn’t know anything had been done.

What do clients want? Effective solutions with minimal RISK.

In exterior restoration, risk takes the form of ineffective solutions (the worst), budget or schedule overruns, or embarrassment for decision makers. But fortunately, risk can be minimized in several ways:

  • a strategic approach which utilizes the right team of professionals to design the right solutions for each project
  • a full understanding of the problem through thorough research, observation, strategic deployment of non-destructive testing, and probes
  • developing the correct solution through understanding of first principles, experience, judgment, and familiarity with effective products, materials, and techniques
  • producing “bulletproof” Contract Documents (CDs) that fulfill the five “Cs” (correct, complete, clear, concise, and consistent)
  • selection of the most appropriate contractor(s) for each project
  • verifying assumptions through mockups and performance models
  • diligent, proactive observation during construction.

Because our best work is virtually invisible, we measure a project’s success in terms of the satisfaction of our institutional, commercial, and residential clients, together with the satisfaction of renewing critical elements of one of the world’s great cities.
