The SCA, NYCHA, DCAS, DDC, HHC, PANY&NJ, OGS, DASNY, and US GSA—SUPERSTRUCTURES has active projects for all these agencies. So our client list is replete with acronyms, right? Actually, some are not acronyms, but initialisms.
What’s the difference? Strings of letters that can be pronounced as a word (versus pronouncing each letter) qualify as acronyms. For example, LASER is a familiar word, but it’s an acronym that stands for “Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation.” On the other hand, FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) is an initialism. So our acronym clients are NYCHA, DCAS, and DASNY. All the others are initialisms.
Whether known by their acronyms or initialisms, these agencies have multiple facilities and millions of square feet under their watch. To assure public safety and preserve asset value, their facades, roofs, and parking structures must be maintained and, when necessary, restored.
These agencies are also “professional clients” with architects and engineers on their selection committees and managing ongoing projects. For decades, again and again, they’ve trusted us to investigate problems, develop solutions, prepare construction documents, and administer construction.
Whereas construction contracts are generally awarded to the lowest bidder, assignments of professional services are based on qualifications, not cost. FYI (an initialism), the value we offer is a well-executed project that’s completed on time, on budget, and for a fair fee.
