SUPERSTRUCTURES conducted an investigation and produced a report to evaluate the roof of the Main Toll House at the George Washington Bridge to assess the existing conditions at the facility and determine the scope of work required for roof replacement at the Toll House and adjacent police kiosk. The scope of the investigation included the existing roof membrane, flashings, parapet, equipment curbs, penetrations, access hatch, and drains, as well as a separate police booth roof. In accordance with the latest energy code, the roof must be insulated when the roof membrane is replaced; equipment curb heights should be raised and flashing at penetrations replaced. The effectiveness of the existing parapet was investigated and modifications to the coping and base flashing were proposed. The roof access hatch opening was investigated, and a reduced opening was proposed, along with hatch replacement. Probes were conducted in select locations to investigate the existing roof and flashing.
