It’s “Throwback Thursday,” so we’re revisiting a project from 2001: the exterior restoration of the 48-building Ellicott Complex at SUNY Buffalo. The project comprised 1.5 million square feet of interconnected academic buildings designed by Davis Brody in 1975.
The project involved restoration of exterior masonry, roofing, and underlying structural systems for which SUPERSTRUCTURES provided investigation, design, and construction administration services.
Conducted in three phases over three years, SUPERSTRUCTURES’ team, led by (now) principal Vikrant Sampat, traveled to Buffalo for weeks at a time. The project footprint was so large that we rented golf carts to expedite inspections.
The Dormitory Authority of New York State (DASNY) selected SUPERSTRUCTURES from a field of 25 pre-qualified firms from throughout the northeastern United States—which was a big deal for us at the time.
