Tempus Fugit

Tempus Fugit…Latin for “time flies.” For New York City, that means that a growing number of its buildings are already 100 years old (or more).

When SUPERSTRUCTURES started out in 1981, we impressed clients by saying, “some of the buildings we work on are almost 100 years old” (constructed in the 1880s). But at that time, such structures were few and far between.

Now, over 40 years later, most of the buildings we work on are approaching 100 years old. The boom years of the Roaring 20s produced many schools, commercial properties, and residential buildings that now make up a growing segment of our portfolio. Even the buildings of the 1960s and 70s—which most consider thoroughly modern—are now at least a half-century old.

But, whether the buildings we work on are 100 years old or 10 years old, we apply the same experience and expertise in ensuring they remain safe and watertight for another century. And we hope that future SUPERSTRUCTURES teams can boast that “some of the buildings we work on are 200 years old.”
