Years ago, a national business magazine published an interview with a trucking magnate, whose impressive fleet of thousands of 18-wheelers crisscrossed the country. They asked him “So when did your fascination with trucks begin?” His answer, essentially— “We may look like a trucking company, but we’re really a logistics company. We lead the industry because we’ve figured out how to accurately track the routes and locations of our vehicles, our drivers, our cargoes, our fuel supply, spare parts, and a dozen other things essential to our business.”
It may come as a surprise, but, at the end of the day, SUPERSTRUCTURES isn’t just an A/E firm; we’re also a technology firm. Our practice is similar to that trucking company in that we’ve always been driven to be at the forefront of technology, developing and implementing digital tools to better manage large, complex projects and offer greater value and efficiency to our clients.
The prime example is SUPERSTRUCTURES’ in-house Tech studio that’s always refining proprietary tools like AIM and AIM Mobile, SurfaceCaptureSM and UAV’s to facilitate facade inspections (soon to be widespread in NYC, we hope)—all to bring restoration practices into the 21st century where they belong.
Most recently, the Tech studio has implemented collaborative digital tools to continue our practice remotely and even oversee subcontractors’ work in the field—initiatives that will serve us well even when things get back to “normal.” Our trajectory toward a paperless office is another example of digital tools helping us to be more efficient and less reliant on archaic procedures.
We’re also a technology firm with regards to our in-house NDT&E studio that uses both time-honored and emerging testing tools and methods to analyze building envelopes without invasive procedures. And it’s not just SUPERSTRUCTURES’ Tech and NDT&E studios; the entire firm embraces new technology and is eager to deploy it. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be successful.
