Known as the Independence School, this K-5 facility in Tribeca was built in 1988. Responding to an investigation of cracks in the building’s facade due to structural deficiencies, SUPERSTRUCTURES provided investigation and design services to remediate the issues. Restoration of the facade included: brick corner reconstruction; replacement of deteriorated face brick; masonry expansion joint restoration; brick arch restoration; brick pier reconstruction; brick and steel lintel replacement; repointing of open masonry joints; and stone crack and spall repairs. Roof work included replacement of the roofing membrane at the one-story setback; replacement of turret sheet metal roofs, and roof drain flashing and drain dome replacement. A conservation treatment plan for artwork at the school was also developed in coordination with Public Art for Public Schools.
