SUPERSTRUCTURES provided investigation, design, and construction administration services to restore the facade of 20 West Street, The Downtown Club. Originally the Downtown Athletic Club (Starrett & van Vleck, 1930), the 38-story residential building is a New York City Landmark. The firm conducted a FISP Cycle 8A examination, which identified various deficiencies in the building’s brick, limestone, granite, and sheet metal-clad facade. Restoration work to remediate these deficiencies included: replacement or repair of cracked and spalled masonry; reinforcement of masonry corners; masonry repointing; replacement of steel lintels; replacement of broken coping stones; sheet metal spandrel repair; and sealant joint replacement.
