The former Shelton Hotel on Lexington Avenue and East 49th Street was designed by Arthur Loomis Harmon as a luxury hotel and completed in 1924. The restoration includes spandrel and parapet beam replacement, steel column reinforcement, and limestone cleaning. SUPERSTRUCTURES provided investigation, design and construction phase services, including specialized repair designs for the cracking and exfoliating limestone facade entrance columns. To preserve the columns' historical integrity, and minimize cost, the columns were "knitted" together with stainless steel pins, rather than replacing them. Subsequent repairs campaigns addressed the roofs, and sidewalk vaults. The building was designated a NYC Landmark in 2016.
